    The Great Pee Dee Heritage Preserve consists of 2,725 acres of dense woods and swamps bordering the river just north of Skeet's Barbecue  in Mechanicsville. The area is open daylight hours seven days a week. It is gated but you simply open the gate and let yourself through after signing in. When we were there a couple of years ago 4-wheelers at made great rutted messes out of the trails but motorized vehicles are banned now and the trails have made a big comeback.
