Lennie & Cynthia Mize of Trinity Farms and Carolyn
Schretzmann-Jebaily. |
This
month’s presentation will focus on our local farmers and gardeners who
are producing foods locally. Lennie and Cynthia are organic farmers
who sell their organic produce, eggs, heirloom vegetable plants, and
pasture raised chicken at the Pee Dee State Farmer’s market. They
had three kids with food allergies and had to turn to organic foods over
10 years ago for health reasons. They are one of the first farmers
to receive a loan from the USDA in South Carolina for organic vegetable
production and have recently been awarded some grants to improve their
farm. In 1994, Carolyn opened “Earthen Works”, a studio and
gallery at the Art Barn at the Pee Dee Farmers Market in Florence where
she cultivated a passion for fresh, local foods from Pee Dee farmers.
Two years ago she began the experimental gardening program for Seed of
Change to promote organic, heirloom seeds and sustainable gardening
practices. Please join us for what will surely be an enjoyable evening. |
